Caribbean Union of Teachers and Education International build young leaders' skills
Based on a story from Education International (EI)
Eighteen young teacher trade unionists from across the Caribbean took part in a four-day Young Leaders Workshop in Castries, Saint Lucia, organised by the Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) with support from Education International (EI) and the Canadian Teachers' Federation. Participants travelled from countries including Belize, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Bermuda, and Saint Lucia, and more than half of them were women. Over the four days, young educators learned about the history of the Caribbean labour movement, how to organise and recruit new union members, and how unions can support gender equality and members' mental health. By the end of the workshop, each participating union had produced a practical action plan to bring new ideas about leadership and youth participation back home.
